1. Who operates SawFacts

SawFacts (the “Site”, at sawfacts.com) is operated by RST LLC, 808 Chestnut Street 1096, Chattanooga, TN 37402. It is an independent, free, informational reference that publishes chainsaw specifications and side-by-side comparisons. It is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or sponsored by any manufacturer. 2. Information we collect

The Site is designed to collect as little as possible. There are no user accounts, sign-ups, comment forms, or payment processing, so we do not collect names, email addresses, or other personal information from visitors. We collect information in four ways: server logs, two kinds of analytics (described in section 4), and corrections you choose to send.

• Server / access logs. Like virtually all websites, our hosting platform automatically records standard request data: your IP address, user-agent string, the URL requested, referrer, timestamp, and response status. These logs are used to operate, secure, and debug the Site.
• Cookies. The Site sets no cookies of its own and no advertising or cross-site tracking cookies. The only cookies on the site are Microsoft Clarity’s, described in section 4. The Site does use your browser’s local storage for three things: your Clarity opt-out choice, the saws you add to the compare tray, and a small counter of how many times you have visited. None of the three leaves your browser — of the visit counter, only a bucket such as “returning” is reported, as described in section 4, and it holds no identifier.
• Search queries. If you use on-site search, the query is sent to our server to return results and may appear in standard access logs. Please do not enter personal information into the search box.

3. No user accounts, no sale of data

We do not maintain user profiles. We do not sell, rent, or trade visitor information. We do not build advertising profiles.

4. Analytics

We measure the Site in two ways, and use neither for advertising.

Our own counter. Every request is matched against a list of known crawlers, AI agents and referring sites, and counted as a date, a source and a page section — plus, for referred visits, the referring host, the page and a coarse browser family. No IP addresses, no full browser strings, no per-visitor records, and referral samples are deleted after 30 days. It exists to show which search engines and AI assistants read the Site.

Our own page-view and outbound-click counts. Separately from Clarity, SawFacts keeps its own record of which pages are viewed and which links to other sites (for example a manufacturer’s product page) are clicked, so we can tell whether the site is useful. It runs on our own server and is not sent to or shared with anyone else. For each page view or outbound click we store the page, the kind of site you arrived from (for example “a search engine”) and its hostname, the address of the outside link that was clicked without any query string, whether a saw was added to the compare tray, and the time.

Approximate location. We also store a country and a coarse area, such as “US” and “US-Central”. These come from the time zone your browser already reports (for example America/Chicago) — not from your IP address, and we do not use any geolocation service. We keep only the country and the area, not the time zone itself, so the most precise thing recorded is a region shared by tens of millions of people. Outside the US and Canada the area is just the continent.

Whether you have been here before. We store a label such as “new” or “returning in the last 7 days”, plus a rough count band such as “2–3 visits”. Your browser works this out for itself from a small counter it keeps in its own local storage, and sends us only the label. No identifier is created, sent or stored, which means we can see what share of visitors come back but we still cannot connect any two of your visits to each other, or tell that two visits were yours. Clearing your site data resets the counter, and we count you as new again.

These records set no cookie, and we do not store your IP address or your browser’s user-agent string with them. To tell one visit from another we compute a short code from your IP address, your user-agent and a random value that is replaced every day and then deleted, so the code cannot be turned back into an address or linked from one day to the next. Nothing is recorded if your browser sends Global Privacy Control or Do Not Track, or if you have used the opt-out switch below, which turns off both Clarity and these counts.

Microsoft Clarity records how pages are used — clicks, scrolling, pages visited, device and browser, and approximate location from your IP — and produces aggregate reports, heatmaps and session replays. It sets first- and third-party cookies. Clarity masks what you type into form fields by default, and our corrections form is masked as well. Data is processed by Microsoft under the Microsoft Privacy Statement.

To opt out: use the switch below, turn on Global Privacy Control in your browser (we then never load Clarity or record a page view), block cookies for sawfacts.com and clarity.ms, or use any tracker blocker. Opting out does not change how the Site works.

4a. Corrections form

Every page has a “Suggest a correction” form. When you send it we receive your message, the page you were on, your browser’s user-agent string, and your email address only if you enter one. It is emailed to the site operator through Resend and is not stored in a database. Your IP address is held briefly in memory to limit spam and is not included in the email.

5. Third parties

• Hosting. The Site and its database are hosted on Railway, which processes request data (including IP addresses) on our behalf to deliver the Site and may retain operational logs under its own policies.
• Microsoft Clarity provides usage analytics, as described above.
• Resend (resend.com) delivers corrections-form emails.
• Outbound links. Pages may link to manufacturer or third-party websites. Those sites have their own privacy practices, which we do not control.

6. Data retention

Operational server logs are retained only as long as needed for security and debugging and are then rotated or deleted in the ordinary course. Our own page-view and outbound-click counts are kept while we study how the site is used and are then deleted or reduced to totals; the daily value used to compute the visit code is deleted at the end of each day. Clarity keeps analytics data under Microsoft’s retention policy for Clarity projects, and we archive its daily totals (sessions, scroll depth, device and country breakdowns — never anything per person). We do not maintain a long-term database of individual visitor activity.

7. Children’s privacy

The Site is a general-audience technical reference and is not directed to children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children.

8. Your rights (CCPA / GDPR summary)

Because we do not maintain accounts or personal profiles, we typically hold no personal data tied to an identifiable visitor beyond transient server logs. To the extent applicable law (such as the California Consumer Privacy Act or the EU General Data Protection Regulation) grants you rights to access, correct, delete, or restrict processing of personal data, or to object to processing, you may exercise them by emailing privacy@sawfacts.com. We do not sell personal information.

9. Security

We take reasonable measures to protect the Site, but no method of transmission or storage is perfectly secure.

10. Changes

We may update this policy from time to time. Material changes will be reflected by updating the “Last updated” date above.
